On the Day
We recommend that you arrive 45 minutes before your route starts. So you have plenty of time to get changed, unload your bike, collect your number and goodie-bag(online only), and get a Tea or Coffee with pastries!
Saturday: On return, you can get a burger from our BBQ, compliments of the Leinster Loop, and enjoy the great atmosphere!
Sunday: On return, you can get a complimentary leg massage, you can then have a shower and get changed, and get your complimentary pasta, and soak up the great atmosphere in the complex!
About the event
The Leinster Loop with Stephen Roche in association with Version 1, is Ireland’s premier charity cycle sportive, starting from Old Grange, Narraghmore, Co. Kildare. The Leinster Loop has been nominated for Cycling Ireland’s Best Leisure Event in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016. It is run on a voluntary basis, and we have over 250 volunteers over the two days!
The Leinster Loop event consists of five distinct routes, the Leinster Loop – a challenging 130km cycle through south Kildare, Laois, Kilkenny and Carlow; the Barrow Challenge – a 90km cycle through the river Barrow valley through Kildare, Laois and Carlow; the Cill Dara Cruise – a 50km cycle through mid Kildare; the Local Loop – a 25km fun cycle through historic south Kildare; and the Roche Ramble – a 12km family fun ramble through historic south Kildare and open to individuals and families.
The event will be led on the day by former Tour de France winner and event ambassador, Stephen Roche.

Our Event Ambassadors
Stephen Roche was born in Dublin and is a retired Professional Cyclist living near Nice in France with his family. In a 13 year professional career he peaked in 1987, becoming only the second cyclist to win the Triple Crown of victories in the Giro D’Italia, the Tour De France and the World Cycling Championship all in the same year.
In total he recorded over 70 professional wins including the Tour of Romandie 3 times, the Paris –Nice, the Tour of Corsica, the Tour of Midi Pyrenees, the Tour of Valencia, the Tour of Pays Basque, the 4 Days of Dunkirk as well as numerous stages in the great Tour de France.
His son Nicolas follows in his father’s footsteps and races for one of cycling’s most successful professional teams, BMC.
John plays his club football for Allenwood and was awarded Kildare Footballer of the Year in 2004 and 2005. He won the Kildare Senior Football Championship with Allenwood in 2004.
John has won one Leinster Senior Football Championship medal with Kildare in 2000 and a Kildare Under-21 county title. He was all round top scorer in the 2008 and 2010 Championships. He was named as a 2010 Vodafone GAA football All Star for his performances with Kildare in the 2010 Championship. John announced his retirement from inter-county football on April 6, 2014 at the age of 36. On his retirement he had appeared 154 times for his county over a 15 year span.
John was also called up for the 2013 International Rules Series for the second Test. He played for Ireland against Australia at Croke Park and won the Series.
John has been a keen supporter of the Leinster Loop since the very start, he came to every Launch and each year of the Leinster Loop. He cycles it every year, and we love having him! He’s a pure gent and always has time for photos and a chat!
